The One Where Amanda Plants an Herb Garden

Now that school is out and we don't have extensive amounts of homework, my husband and I have been watching an absurd amount of Friends recently... hence my title of this post.

Maybe it's being married to Nick, and maybe it's because we watch Friends & Seinfeld all the time, but I feel like I'm starting to think of life like a sitcom. There's beginning to be a little laugh track that plays in my head every time I say something that I believe to be particularly witty.

But I digress. This has nothing to do with my actual post... which is about my first summer project of 2015: my herb garden!

As much as I'll try to deny it, I really do enjoy doing "housewifey" things, dang it. And I LOVED putting together my little herb garden for my tiny apartment porch. I've wanted to do something like this for a while now, so this was a really fulfilling project for me. And it's a gift that keeps on giving! I love cooking, and using fresh herbs just really makes it extra exciting for me. Because of this, I spent quite a bit of time in the garden department at Home Depot trying to decide which herbs I would use most regularly in the kitchen. I narrowed it down to five, but I really might go back for more.

In my cart here, I've got thyme, rosemary, mint, basil, and cilantro (duh).

Also, I went straight from work to Home Depot, so I was wearing a skirt and flats when walking through the store. I'm sure I looked completely out of place. Or like a 50's housewife.

Anywho, I picked out  my plants and then packed them away in the car and took them home with me! Wee!

Disclaimer: I was not actively driving when taking this selfie.
After a trip to the grocery store and some dinner, I took advantage of the warm, light summer evening and potted my plants. I really know nothing about plants (despite taking a "Living With Plants" class my freshman year), but I seem to have done it right! Woo. So far, so good.

And that's pretty much it. I know that this really isn't that impressive of a task, but it was my first time doing it and my goodness am I proud of myself!

I even made little labels to put on them.

I could not be more pleased! Whenever it is that we wind up having a home with real garden space, I would love to have a full garden with vegetables and everything

And of course, I couldn't just plant this without using the herbs as quickly as I could manage. I love cooking!

For dinner tonight we had chicken noodle soup with thyme and basil. So yummy. And, I made vanilla mint lemonade.

Well, I've filled my blog quota for the week. It's Star Wars weekend & the release of Age of Ultron tomorrow. So I have a fantastic, nerd-filled weekend to look forward to.

First Post & Blogs of Years Past

Hey everyone, and welcome to my blog!

...and by everyone, I mean my mother and maybe 3 other people.

This is me (on the right, that is). I'm a newlywed living in Provo, Utah and going to school at Brigham Young University

I know, I know that everything about that last sentence is about as cliche as you can get, and that I'm in the exact same life situation as most bloggers in all of ever are. Even so, I decided that I'm at a good point in my life to document some of my experiences.

This isn't my first attempt at blogging, however. A couple years ago, I began a blog called Cantare e Cucinare and I posted a grand total of three times. And way, way before that, I had an amusing little blog called The Panda Queen (click link at your own risk. There are no guarantees of what you'll find there).

*Ahem.*

Anyway, a little bit more about myself & my little family:

I'm a Choral Music Education Major at BYU (oh yeah... I had a blog for that, too) and it is wonderful. Of course, it also drives me insane. But I somehow still manage to absolutely love it. I've got a year left of classes, and then a year of student teaching. I also love cooking, doodling, reading, and watching movies with my husband.

And speaking of my husband... this is him!

Nick's a Film/ "Media Arts" major (also at BYU), and he's doing amazing things. I may be a bit biased, but I'm absolutely not saying that lightly. Keep an eye out for Nick Ritter's stuff in the future, because you will not want to miss it.

This guy is my biggest support and he keeps me going. I'm beyond grateful that I get to claim him for forever.

We've been married since July of last year, and those 9 months have been the craziest, most fantastic months of my life so far. I love being married. I know that my stubborn self 2 years ago would have cringed at that statement, but it's true.

All these fantastic photos were taken by Mad Marie Photography.

Anyway. I won't bore you more today. But fingers crossed that I actually keep this blog running. My goal for the summer is at least one post a week.

Here's to more adventures!
